Description

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' London event, 4 November 2023.

  • Special edition 599 GTB made to honour Fernando Alonso, then racing for Scuderia Ferrari
  • One of around only 40 examples made; one of only nine supplied to the UK
  • Engine bay signed by the Spanish ex-F1 champion
  • Odometer reads only 6,209 miles

In a career reaching back to the 2001 Australian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso’s continuing involvement in Formula 1 contributes to the Spaniard’s standing as one of the most accomplished drivers in the modern history of the sport. Consecutive titles in 2005 and 2006 clearly outlined Alonso’s ability and a dream move to Scuderia Ferrari followed in 2010, a team he would represent over five seasons and earn three 2nd-place Championship finishes on the way. The driver’s victory at the 2011 British Grand Prix energised Ferrari into announcing the 599 GTB 60F1 ‘Alonso Edition’—honouring the Scuderia’s first-ever race win at the hands of José Froilán González at the 1951 British Grand Prix, 60 years apart from Alonso’s triumph at Silverstone.

The special edition car shared the same 6.0-litre V-12 found at the heart of the standard 599 GTB but featured the enhanced HGTE chassis with stiffer suspension, shorter springs, and firmer anti-roll bars. Cosmetically, the 60F1 ‘Alonso Edition’ differed from the normal car with dashes of white found on the front spoiler, bonnet, boot, and stretching from the A-pillar to its rear louvres, where a Scuderia Ferrari logo pays homage to the F1 team.

The example offered here is believed to be one of only nine cars made in right-hand drive and supplied new to the United Kingdom, and one of around 40 produced in total. Finished in Rosso Scuderia, the 599 GTB deploys the popular “F1” semi-automatic gearbox. Its configuration is shaped by the limited-edition car’s generous standard equipment that includes 20-inch forged alloy wheels, widespread use of carbon fibre around the interior, and Alcantara-lined Recaro racing seats. The Ferrari features blue and red racing harnesses, signed by Alonso, while the engine bay is also hand-marked by the ex-F1 champion.

With just one prior private owner, the Ferrari has been used sparingly with only 6,209 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing. The car benefits from regular main dealer servicing, the last of which was completed by Graypaul Ferrari Nottingham on 4 October 2022. No doubt a future collector’s item for Ferrari enthusiasts, this exciting and rare version of the 599 GTB is a must for F1 fans.
